Greyhounds move to 4-0

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 DECATUR, Ala.- The UIndy softball team stayed in the win column on day two of the Ringor Charger Chillout hosted by Alabama-Huntsville, picking up a 3-2 win in eight innings over Lander and a decisive 13-0 win in five innings over Wayne State. With the victories, the Greyhounds move to 4-0 on the 2012 season.

UINDY 3, LANDER 2 (8 inn.)
Lander struck first after four complete scoreless innings in the ballgame. The Bearcats pushed across a single run in the fifth inning, on a trio of singles.

A swing of the bat by Casey Williamson to lead off the UIndy portion of the fifth tied the game at 1-1, with the Greyhound freshman sending her first collegiate home run over the rightfield fence.

After the Williamson homer, UIndy loaded the bases on a trio of walks. A fielder's choice by Dakota Malayer and a throwing error by the Bearcat thirdbaseman scored Alexa Alfaro to put the Greyhounds up 2-1.

The Bearcats re-tied the score in the top of the sixth, on an RBI double to left center that scored Arielle Buchholz.

Neither team could score in the seventh, pushing the game to extra innings. The Greyhounds scored on a sacrifice fly by Briana Clark, scoring pinch runner DeVyn Barker.

Williamson went 2-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI, while Jennifer DeMotte picked up her third pitching win of the season, striking out three in two and one-third innings of work.

UINDY 13, WAYNE STATE 0 (5 inn.)
The Greyhound offense really came alive in a 13-0 win over Wayne State to close out the second day of Charger Chillout action.

Williamson came out of the gates swinging, tripling to right field to lead off the game. DeMotte followed with a triple of her own to center, scoring Williamson to put UIndy ahead 1-0 just two batters into the game.

DeMotte came home two batters later, on a groundout to short by Cori Eckerle, to put the Greyhounds up 2-0 in the first.

UIndy plated four runs in the third inning, with a one-out walk to Williamson kicking things off. The freshman outfielder then stole second, and moved to third on a DeMotte single. Williamson came home on a single to left by Alfaro.

Eckerle followed with a walk, loading the bases for Dakota Malayer, who reached on a fielder's choice to keep the bases juiced. Clark responeded with a triple to left field, clearing the bags and putting the Greyhounds up 6-0.

Seven runs in the UIndy fourth really broke the game open, with the Greyhounds scoring the lucky seven on four hits and a pair of Warrior errors.

Williamson, DeMotte, Alfaro and Clark all had a pair of hits in the game for UIndy, with DeMotte picking up her fourth win in the circle with the shutout victory.

The Greyhounds close out the Charger Chillout Sunday morning with contests against Truman State and Augusta State at 9:00 and 11:00, respectively.
