HUNTSVILLE, Ala.- The #13 Greyhound softball team took its first loss of the year Friday afternoon, falling 5-2 at #1 Alabama-Huntsville.

The Greyhounds (4-1) broke a scoreless tie in the top of the third inning. A single to right field off the bat of Jennifer DeMotte scored Kelsey Rummel, who had reached on a single to centerfield two batters prior.

The top-ranked Chargers answered back in the bottom of the frame, putting up three runs on a homerun over the right field fence from Stephanie Needham.

UIndy struck again in the top of the fifth, with Rummel sparking the offense with a two-out single to right field. She scored on a Casey Williamson double to cut the Alabama-Huntsville lead to 3-2.

A solo homer from Kathryn Whitlock to open the bottom of the sixth pushed the UAH lead to 4-2. The Chargers plated their final run on an RBI single to right field a few batters later.

Rummel was the lone Greyhound with more than one hit on the day, going 2-for-3 at the dish with a pair of runs scored. DeMotte (4-1) suffered the setback in the circle, striking out five and walking two.

UIndy faces off in a neutral site doubleheader tomorrow with Charleston at Alabama-Huntsville. First pitch is slated for 1:00 p.m.
