Softball sweeps Charleston

HUNTSVILLE, Ala.- The University of Indianapolis softball team picked up a pair of wins over Charleston at Alabama-Huntsville Saturday.

The Greyhounds (6-1) took a 2-1 win and an 8-0 win in the doubleheader sweep.

In game one, UIndy's two runs were plated on RBIs from Casey Williamson and Kelsey Rummel. Both Rummel and Krysta Bradford crossed the plate in the Greyhound victory.

Jennifer DeMotte (5-1) took the win in the circle, tossing the complete game. The UIndy junior struck out 15, while surrendering one earned run on four hits.

In game two, the Greyhound offense put up eight runs in the shutout victory. DeMotte paced the offense with a 3-for-3 showing at the plate with three RBIs in the win. DeMotte also scored two runs, while Alexa Alfaro, Cori Eckerle and Rummel all each had a pair of hits.

Audrey Ernst (1-0) earned her first victory of the season pitching, striking out nine over five innings of work.

UIndy opens GLVC play next weekend, traveling to Quincy and Illinois Springfield.
