#7 Greyhounds sweep Saints

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 INDIANAPOLIS- The #7 Greyhound softball team kept its GLVC slate unblemished with a doubleheader sweep of visting Maryville at the Indiana Central Little League Saturday afternoon. UIndy took game one 5-1, and won game two 4-1.

#7 UIndy 5, Maryville 1

The Saints put the first run on the board in the ballgame, with Shelby Steinkamp leading off the Maryville fourth inning with a homerun over the right center fence.

Maryville (3-11, 0-6 GLVC) loaded the bases with two outs in the top of the fifth inning, but a flyout to Samantha Krcelich in left field got the Greyhounds out of the jam.

UIndy (12-1, 6-0 GLVC) tied the game in its half of the sixth inning, with Taylor Russell able to score on an error by the Saints pitcher on a ball hit by Jennifer DeMotte with two outs.

DeMotte, along with Alexa Alfaro, who singled a batter later, came home to score on a ball over the leftfield fence off the bat of Cori Eckerle. The three-run bomb put the Greyhounds on top, 4-1.

The home team tacked on one more run in the frame, with Krcelich coming in on a wild pitch after reaching on a single to the left side.

Both Russell and Eckerle had a pair of hits for UIndy in game one, with Eckerle's two RBIs leading the squad. DeMotte (9-1) earned the win in the circle, striking out seven en route to the victory.

#7 UIndy 4, Maryville 1

The Greyhounds put themselves up 1-0 after the first inning, with Casey Williamson coming in to score after doubling off the rightfield fence on a misplay on a ball hit to the shortstop by DeMotte.

UIndy plated another run in the second, on a pair of Saints errors. The Saints answered with one run in the fifth inning to run the score to 2-1 in the favor of the Greyhounds.

A Kelsey Rummel double to the rightcenter fence plated Briana Clark, who had walked to open the bottom of the fifth inning. Rummel came in herself a couple batters later on a bloop single to left by Williamson to close out the game's scoring.

Williamson's two hits in three atbats led the Greyhounds in game two, while Audrey Ernst picked up the win to move to 3-0 on the season.

The Greyhounds head to Kissimmee, Fla. for their annual Spring Break trip to the Rebel Spring Games. UIndy will open play a the games Monday afternoon with games against Tiffin and Wayne State.
