Softball wins ninth and 10th straight

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 KISSIMMEE, Fla.- The #7 UIndy softball team added to its 10-game winning streak with a pair of wins over in-region Tiffin and Wayne State at the Rebel Spring Games Monday.

The Greyhounds plated five runs in the top of the second inning, with Jennifer DeMotte and Alexa Alfaro coming around to score on an error by the Dragon rightfielder. Cori Eckerle also came around to score, off of a single by Samantha Krcelich combined with a Dragon error.
Krcelich scored the fourth UIndy run, on a triple off the bat of Briana Clark, who would also come home on a sacrifice fly to centerfield by Kelsey Rummel to push the Greyhound lead to 5-0.

UIndy added another run in the third, with Casey Williamson starting things off with a walk. She stole second, and came in to score on a double from DeMotte.

In the seventh, the Greyhounds plated two more runs. Sydney Russell reached on a fielder's choice and scored  on a double by sister Taylor Russell. An RBI single to left from Williamson scored Taylor Russell to close out the scoring.

DeMotte (10-1) earned the win, striking out 10 in six innings. Rummel, Taylor Russell, Williamson and Clark all had two hits in the ballgame, with Clark tallying a pair of RBIs in the win.

#7 UIndy 3, Wayne State 1
The Warriors jumped ahead of UIndy in the top of the first inning in the Greyhounds' second contest of the day, on a pair of hits.

UIndy answered back with a pair of runs in the bottom of the frame, with Rummel starting things off with a single to left. She stole second, and came home on a double to left by Taylor Russell. A sacrifice fly from Alexa Alfaro brough Taylor Russell home.

One more Greyhound would score in the bottom of the second, with Krcelich coming in on an RBI single to left by Rummel.

Audrey Ernst (3-0) earned the win, tossing a three-hit complete game. Rummel led the offense with a pair of hits.

The Greyhounds continue their Rebel Spring Games play Tuesday with games against Minnesota-Duluth and Edinboro at 1:00 and 3:00 p.m., respectively.

NOTES: The 10-straight wins is the most by a UIndy team since the 2010 season, when the Greyhounds strung together 13 wins between Mar. 6-19...the 1990 edition of Greyhound softball, coached by current Athletic Director Dr. Sue Willey, also started the year 13-0.
