MANSFIELD, Texas -- The University of Indianapolis women finished 11th and the men 12th at the 2012 NCAA Division II Swimming and Diving Championships that concluded
Saturday night at the Mansfield ISD Natatorium. The women increased their streak of top-12 finishes to 12 years in a row, while the men finished in the top 25 for the 13th year in a row. The women totaled 130 points, 11 shy of 10th place Florida Southern, while the men racked up 132 points to finish 20 points behind 11th-place Queens (N.C.).
The women's national championship was won by UIndy's Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference rival Wayne State by one point over Drury (497-496). On the men's side, Drury won the national championship by 73 points over UC San Diego.
The women were led by two-time GLIAC Swimmer of the Year
Maura Donahue with All-America finishes in the maximum seven events, including first team honors (top eight finish) in five of them. The men were paced by freshman
Justin Rossillo with six All-America finishes that included two first team.
Overall, the Greyhounds earned 21 All-American honors (men-12, women-9) in 20 events, including all five relays for both genders.
On Saturday, the Greyhounds started with
Maura Donahue taking fifth in the 100 free in 50.77, while
Bruno Barbosa was seventh in 44.70 in the finals.
The men put more points up in the 200 breast as
Muzaffer Demirtas swam a personal best of 2:00.79 to place fifth in the consolation final (13th overall) to move into second all-time at UIndy, just .23 behind Manuel Stiem's school record.
The women closed out the championship with a school record of 3:25.09 to take fifth in the 400 free relay with
Maura Donahue,
Julia Madeira,
Hayley Good (who's mom sang the national anthem during the championship) and
Meghan Donahue.
The men took fourth in the consolation final (12th overall) in 3:02.03 with
Guy Kogel, Rossillo,
Nikolas Aresti and Barbosa.
Friday Update
Maura Donahue started the night with her third First Team All-America performance by placing eighth in the 500 free in 4:58.10.
Rossillo put the next points on the board by breaking a 10-year old school record in the 100 back (Orel Oral-49.42) with a time of 49.16 to earn Honorable Mention All-America honors placing fourth (12th overall) in the consolation finals.

The men added 19 more points in the 200 fly as senior
Guy Kogel was seventh in 1:47.99, while junior
Daniel Chan was runner-up (10th overall) in 1:48.12 in the consolation final.
Friday night closed with the 800 free relay as the women placed ninth in 7:33.73 with
Maura Donahue,
Hayley Good,
Shiran Abrahamson and
Meghan Donahue. The men finished the night breaking a five-year old school record to finish 13th in 6:44.78 with
Bruno Barbosa, Rossillo,
Nikolas Aresti and Chan.
The NCAA Championships conclude on Saturday with prelims at 11:30 a.m. ET and finals at 7 p.m. tomorrow.
Thursday Update
The evening started with the quartet of
Julia Madeira,
Maura Donahue,
Vicki Galiamoutsa and
Meghan Donahue earning First Team All-America honors with a seventh-place finish in 1:34.35 in the 200 free relay. The men were 14th (1:23.04) for honorable mention honors with Barbosa, Rossillo,
Muzaffer Demirtas and Aresti.
Up next was Chan taking seventh in the 400 individual medley for the men in 3:56.93, while Kogel finished in a tie to win the consolation final in the 100 butterfly in 48.58.
Maura Donahue added her third All-America honor of the meet by taking fourth in the 200 free in 1:49.98 and the Greyhounds finished the night with the 400 medley relay. The women were 11th with
Meghan Donahue,
Jaclyn Luscomb,
Ashlee Fishburn and Galiamoutsa in 3:51.56, while the men turned in a school-record performance in the final event of the day. Rossillo, Demirtas, Kogel and Barbosa swam a program-best 3:16.15 to finish seventh in the 400 medley relay.
Wednesday Update
The 200 medley relay team of Rossillo, Demirtas, Kogel and Aresti earned First Team All-America honors by finishing in seventh with a time of 1:29.31.
The women scored nine points after a pair of honorable mention All-America performances.
Maura Donahue was 12th in the 1,000 free in 10:15.26, while the 200 medley relay team of
Meghan Donahue, Luscomb,
Samantha Asencio and Galiamoutsa was 15th in 1:46.23.
