INDIANAPOLIS- The #6 UIndy softball team officially opened its new venue with a bang Saturday, posting 8-0 and 8-4 wins over visiting Lewis in GLVC play.

Jennifer DeMotte gave the new home of UIndy softball, Baumgartner Field, a fitting reception Saturday, tossing a perfect
game to christen the Greyhounds' new digs.
DeMotte sent 15 Lewis Flyers (10-13, 4-6 GLVC) down in order en route to the 8-0 UIndy win in five innings, striking out three.
The Greyhound offense tallied nine hits in the win, paced by
Casey Williamson and
Kelsey Rummel, who both had 3-for-4 showings at the plate.
UIndy (20-1, 8-0 GLVC) jumped to an early lead with three runs in the bottom of the first inning, with two coming home a Williamson double.
The Greyhounds put up a pair in the fourth inning, again via a double to left center by Williamson. The home team closed out the victory via the run-rule on an RBI single from Williamson in the bottom of the fifth.
Williamson finished with five RBIs total in the game, and scored a pair of runs.
#6 UIndy 8, Lewis 4
The Greyhounds plated three runs to open game two, on a pair of hits and four walks issued by the Flyer hurler.
Lewis put up its first runs of the day in the top of the third inning. The Flyers plated two runs in the frame, on three hits, to push the score to 3-2 UIndy.
The Flyers tied the ballgame, 3-3, in the fourth inning, on a pair of hits. The Greyhounds pushed across a single run in the sixth, with
Dakota Malayer coming up with the RBI single through the right side.
Alexa Alfaro scored on the play, after singling to left to open the inning.
A homerun over left center by Michelle Vucsko to lead off the Lewis seventh re-knotted the contest, 4-4.
Williamson came about three foot short of ending the ballgame in leading off the Greyhound seventh with a triple off the centerfield fence. After intentional walks issued to both DeMotte and Alfaro,
Samantha Krcelich stepped to the plate with the bases full of Greyhounds.
The UIndy rookie answered with her third homer of the year, a towering shot just inside the leftfield foulpole. The walk-off grandslam ran the score to 8-4, giving the Greyhounds their 20th victory of the season.
Rummel tallied a pair of hits in four atbats in game two, with Krcelich recording four RBIs on her grandslam. DeMotte (14-1) earned the victory, striking out four and walking one in her second win of the day.
The Greyhounds play host to UW-Parkside in another GLVC twinbill Sunday. First pitch from Baumgartner Field is slated for noon.
NOTES: Prior to this year's 20-1 start to the year, the 1990 Greyhounds posted a 19-1 record to open the year...UIndy's 16-game winning streak is the program's best-ever.
