SPRINGFIELD, Mo.-  After dropping its conference opener 5-4 at Drury Sunday, senior Donovan Drake tossed a five-hit shutout to lift the UIndy baseball team (5-6, 1-1 GLVC) to a 3-0 win in game two, ensuring a split versus the Panthers (10-6, 3-1).

GAME 1
Greyhound ace Hugo Lalonde endured his first loss of the season in the opener.  The Montreal, Quebec native allowed his first run of 2012 after giving up a leadoff triple and two singles in the first.

Lalonde, who came into the day allowing zero earned runs in 14 innings pitched, went on to surrender 10 hits and five tallies in four innings to drop to 2-1 on the season.

Nevertheless, UIndy nearly pulled out the win, thanks in part to a solid outing from senior JaVaun West.  Yesterday's cancelation allowed the right hander -- normally a starter -- to work four relief innings of one-hit ball.

Consequently, UIndy had a chance heading into the ninth.  Down 5-3, the Hounds got a two-out RBI single from Scott Lawley to pull within one.

An intentional walk followed to load the bases, but with the potential tying run 90 feet away, pinch hitter Chris Saroff went down swinging to end the game.

GAME 2
Drake (2-1) faced just 24 batters in the seven-inning second game.  He allowed five hits – all singles – while inducing two double plays and striking out five.

Meanwhile, UIndy plated single runs in the second, fifth and seventh innings in support of its starter's complete-game effort.  A sac fly from Bryce Feller, an RBI double from Scott Mourey and a run-scoring single from Nate Koontz drove in the runs.

The Hounds return to Greyhound Park to host a pair of GLVC West teams next weekend, starting with a doubleheader versus Rockhurst Saturday, Mar. 24.
