BOX SCORE
UIndy 18, Urbana 3
INDIANAPOLIS- The UIndy baseball team (11-7) made it seven wins out of the last eight games with a 18-3 drumming of visiting Urbana Thursday afternoon. It marked the second straight game the Greyhounds hung 18 runs on the scoreboard versus an in-region opponent.
Starter
Clint Seefeldt, who earned his first win of the season Thursday, looked sharp in the early going, as the 6-3 right hander fanned the first four batters he faced. The Knights coaxed back-to-back walks in the second, however, to help push across two runs, but Seefeldt (1-1) settled down to allow just one more score in the next four frames. He finished with a line of six innings, three runs, six Ks and four walks.
Less
Mike Page's leadoff single in the first, the Hounds were hitless through the first four innings. But with Urbana leading 3-0, the home team finally broke through with a big fifth inning, scoring seven runs -- all with two outs. Four Greyhounds earned walks in the productive frame, as junior
Nick Whitty and senior
Nate Koontz each notched an RBI double.
UIndy put the game out of reach by sandwiching a one-run seventh with five-run outbursts in both the sixth and eighth. Meanwhile, the Greyhound bullpen pitched three scoreless innings, as
Gavin Petrea,
Phil Wheeler and
Tyler Norton combined to allow just two hits and zero runs.
Page reached base safety in all six of his plate appearance, going 3-for-3 with three walks and three runs scored.
Jake Hartley topped the club with four hits, while both he and Whitty garnered four ribbies.
UIndy returns to conference play when it travel to Kenosha, Wis., to face divisional-opponent Wisconsin-Parkside for a four-game series. Saturday's doubleheader is scheduled to start at 1 p.m. Eastern.
