KENOSHA, Wis.- The UIndy baseball team recorded a sweep at Wisconsin-Parkside Sunday with wins of 3-2 and 10-0 at Oberbruner Field. With victories in 10 of their last 12 contests, the Greyhounds improved to 14-8 on the season and 7-3 in Great Lakes Valley Conference play.
GAME 1 (7 inn.)
Down 2-1 heading into the final frame, the Hounds earned the come-back win without the benefit of a base hit. The first three Greyhounds coaxed walks to load the bases with nobody out. The visitors then earned back-to-back sacrifice flies to take the lead, with Greyhound first baseman
Jake Hartley getting credit for the game winner.
Starter
JaVaun West got the win by striking out eight in his six innings of work. Senior
Chris Saroff then came on to pitch a scoreless seventh to earn his first save of the season. Saroff's 13 career saves are good for fourth in program history.
GAME 2 (9 inn.)
Freshman
Brett Collins, sophomore
Gavin Petrea and senior
Tyler Norton combined to pitch nine shutout innings. In just his third collegiate start, Collins went seven scoreless, allowing just four hits and striking out eight to improve to 2-1 on the season.
After managing just hit one in the first four innings, the Hounds exploded for five runs in the sixth and four in the seventh. Both innings featured big hits with the bases loaded, as
Tyler O'Daniel drove in three with a double in the sixth and
Nate Koontz hit the team's first grand slam of the season in the seventh.
Kootz finished with six ribbies in game two, as the Brownsburg, Ind., native also earned a bases-loaded walk and a one-run triple.
The Greyhounds are right back at it with a mid-week twin bill at Saint Joseph's Tuesday, Apr. 3. First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m. Eastern.
