INDIANAPOLIS-  The UIndy baseball team (21-9) bagged a couple of region wins Tuesday on a blustery afternoon at Greyhound Park.  The Hounds downed visiting Kentucky State by scores of 8-3 and 16-1, marking their third and fourth wins against the non-conference Thorobreds this season.

GAME 1  (7 inn.)
KSU (9-18) out-hit the Greyhounds in a bizarre game one.  The Hounds needed just three hits to produce their eight runs, as the Thorobred pitchers amassed nine walks and hit six batters to aid the UIndy cause.

Indianapolis' two, three and four hitters Matt Maringer, Jake Hartley and Nate Koontz each scored twice, with Hartley adding a two-run homer in the first.

Sophomore hurler Alex Wood (3-0) went four innings to get the win, while junior Phil Wheeler notched the three-inning save.

GAME 2  (7 inn.)
After scoring a single run in the first inning, the UIndy offense pounced on the Thorobreds with a nine-run second.  A whopping 15 Greyhounds came to the plate in the productive frame, as Tyler O'Daniel, Mitch Ransburg and Adam Rusche all drove in runs with gap shots to right center.

O'Daniel finished 4-for-5 with four RBI and a pair of doubles.  Rusche had three hits, including a two-run triple.

Senior starter Patrick Kraft (1-0) picked up his first win of the season by allowing one run and four hits in four innings.  He also struck out four and walked zero.

Relievers Chad Moore and Sean Elliott combined to get the game's final nine outs without allowing a run.

UIndy returns to conference play for a GLVC East showdown at Northern Kentucky this weekend.  The four-game set begins with a doubleheader Saturday at 12 p.m.  The Norse sit atop the East Division standings, three games ahead of the second-place Hounds.
