INDIANAPOLIS- The second-ranked UIndy softball team split a doubleheader with GLVC-foe Northern Kentucky Saturday, dropping game one 4-2 in nine innings before snapping a four-game losing streak with an 8-4 win in the nightcap.

Prior to the first pitch, the Greyhounds re-dedicated Baumgartner Field to it's namesake, Mary "Wimp" Baumgartner. The former All-American Girls Professional Baseball League star and 1957 Indiana Central graduate was on hand for the dedication, and received a commemorative frame of the first game played at the new Greyhound facility.

With the bases loaded and two out in the bottom of the third, a walk issued to Casey Williamson brought in the first Greyhound run, with Briana Clark crossing the plate after reaching via an infield single.

The Norse took the lead in the top of the fifth, on a towering homerun over the scoreboard in right centerfield. The two-run shot by Kaylin Steinmetz brought in Michelle Carson as well.

A Williamson single up the middle with two outs in the bottom of the fifth brought in Kelsey Rummel, who reached via a fielder's choice, knotting the ballgame at 2-2.

Emily Schwaeble, the Norse pitcher, took matters into her own hands in the top of the ninth inning to give Northern Kentucky the win. Schwaeble sent a two-run homer out of the ballpark to leftcenter, also plating Steinmetz who had walked earlier in the frame.

Sydney Russell went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead UIndy, while Williamson had a pair of RBIs for the Greyhounds. Jennifer DeMotte (28-5) took the loss, tossing all nine innings. DeMotte surrendered four hits and struck out six in the setback.

UIndy jumped on top early in the second game of the day, putting up three runs in the top of the first inning. Rummel was first on base, leading off the game with a walk. Russell followed with a single to centerfield.

Williamson sent a single to right to plate Rummel. Both Russell and Williamson scored on a single up the middle off the bat of Briana Clark a few batters later to run the score to 3-0 in UIndy's favor.

NKU posted a pair of runs in the top of the fourth to cut the Greyhound lead to one run, 3-2.

Krysta Bradford answered the Norse's two runs with two of her own in the bottom of the inning, as the Greyhound sophomore sent out her first homerun of the year over the leftfield net, also scoring Dakota Malayer, who singled up the middle.

A two-run homer by Clark scored Krcelich, who singled up the middle a batter earlier. The Krcelich single scored DeMotte, who doubled to the left center fence to reach base. The fifth inning closed with UIndy up 8-2.

The Norse plated a pair of runs in the top of the sixth, with both coming in as a result of a collision in the Greyhound outfield, cutting the UIndy advantage to four at 8-4.

Clark and Williamson both had a pair of hits in game two for UIndy, with Clark leading the offense with four RBIs. Audrey Ernst (15-1) earned the victory, striking out two in surrendering five hits.

The Greyhounds close out the regular season home slate Sunday, hosting Bellarmine at noon. UIndy will be raising awareness for Muscular Dystrophy and Team Liam, as well as continuing to honor Ernst for her three years of dedication to UIndy softball.
