INDIANAPOLIS- The #2 UIndy softball team surrendered its first GLVC loss of the season in a doubleheader split with visiting Southern Indiana Saturday. The Greyhounds (37-2; 23-1 GLVC) won game one, 8-0 in five innings and fell to the Screaming Eagles 8-6 in the nightcap.

The Greyhounds jumped all over the visiting Screaming Eagles (21-17, 12-12 GLVC) in the first inning, plating six runs in the opening frame.
Kelsey Rummel opened the ballgame with a walk, and scored on a
Taylor Russell double down the leftfield line a batter later. After a steal of third by Russell and walks issued to both
Casey Williamson and
Jennifer DeMotte, and double to left by
Samantha Krcelich brought in two more runs.
Briana Clark followed with a single to left, scoring both DeMotte and Krcelich.
Alexa Alfaro singled through the left side, putting runners on first and second for
Sydney Russell, who moved the runners over with a sacrifice bunt.
The final tally of the inning came in with Clark scoring on an illegal pitch, running the score to 6-0 Greyhounds.
UIndy added its final two runs in the fourth, with Williamson scoring on a DeMotte single. DeMotte came in as well, on a single through the left side by Krcelich.
In earning her 10th shutout victory of the year with the win, tossing five innings of one-hit softball. DeMotte struckout four and walked no one en route to improving to 24-1 on the year.
Cori Eckerle, Krcelich and Clark all had two hits in game one for UIndy, with Krcelich putting up three RBIs in the win.

UIndy put up a single run in the bottom of the second in game two, with Rummel scoring on a flyball to left after reaching on a bunt single to open the inning.
Brook Harmening tied the ballgame at 1-1 with a solo homerun over the centerfield fence to lead off the Screaming Eagle second inning, with DeMotte returning to the circle and coaxing a pair of ground balls to get UIndy out of a one-out, bases-juiced jam.
The Greyhounds pushed across another single run in the bottom of the fourth, with Eckerle scoring on an RBI single up the middle by Clark. UIndy added one more run in the fifth, with Williamson's single-season record-tying 18th double bringing home
Sydney Russell, who singled to open the inning.
Southern Indiana put up four runs in the top of the seventh, putting UIndy down for just the 16th inning all season, in more than 250 total innings played.
Taylor Russell led off the bottom of the seventh with a double to center, and advanced to third on a long flyball to left by Williamson. A single down the leftfield line scored Russell.
A homer out to left by Eckerle pushed the score to 8-6, USI, with Krcelich following with a walk. She moved to second on a groundout by Clark. A single off the pitcher put runners on the corners, but UIndy could not push them across.
DeMotte (24-2) took the loss in relief, while Alfaro's two hits led the Greyhound offense.
UIndy closes out its eight-game homestand Wednesday at Baumgartner Field, when the Greyhounds will play host to Urbana in a non-league doubleheader. First pitch of game one is slated for 3 p.m.
NOTES: With the their win in game one today, UIndy has now won the most GLVC games in program history (23). Prior to this year's total, the Greyhounds posted a 22-6 record in league games in 2010...UIndy is now just two wins away from tying the program win record, with the 2008 edition of Greyhound softball posting a 39-28 record...the UIndy win streak of 33 games is the best mark in program history, and is tied for 9th-best all-time in NCAA Division II...with her win in game one, DeMotte improves to a career record of 60-15, and puts herself just three wins away from breaking the UIndy career wins record of 62, held by Wendlinger and Megan Russell...the shutout victory is DeMotte's 10th of the year, giving her the new UIndy season-best mark...DeMotte now has 23 career shutouts, just four away from Wendlinger's career mark of 26.
