INDIANAPOLIS- The #9 UIndy Men's Soccer team advanced to the semifinals of the Great Lakes Valley Conference Soccer Championship Tournament, taking a 1-0 win over Bellarmine in first round tournament action at Key Stadium Sunday afternoon.

The second-seeded Greyhounds (14-2-2) had their best chance of the first half in the 22nd minute, with Kevin Eggert sending a ball into the box on a free kick for the head of Daniel Wellmann. The German transfer sent a laser at the net that deflected off the near post. UIndy and the visiting Knights (8-6-4) were knotted in a scoreless tie at the halftime break.

Ngwese Ebangwese, the GLVC's leading goal scorer on the season, put away his 13th score of the year in the 48th minute to give the Greyhounds the eventual victory. Ebangwese took a ball from Roger Lee, beat a defender and scored past a pulled out Bellarmine keeper.

Ebangwese's four shots on the match led UIndy, while Andrew Verhonik earned the victory in goal. The Plainfield, Ind. native made five saves in facing nine shots in the match.

The tournament win is the first since 2010 for UIndy, with the Greyhounds advancing to its first-ever league championship match that year. UIndy missed the tournament a year ago, and failed to advance past the first round in 2011. This season's victory avenges a 2-2 tie with the Knights in the first round of the 2011 tournament, with Bellarmine advancing on in that year's event via penalty kicks.

UIndy advances to play six-seeded Drury in the GLVC Championship Tournament semifinals at 3:30 EST Friday afternoon. The semifinal matches will be played at Quincy, by virtue of the top-seeded Hawks taking a 1-0 win over Missour S&T in their semifinal match today. Drury, who the Greyhounds bested 3-1 at Key Stadium Oct. 20, upset three-seeded Lewis in overtime, 1-0, in its quarterfinal match.
