Postgame Interview
INDIANAPOLIS – The UIndy women's basketball team (17-6, 10-5 GLVC) upped its win streak to four by holding off division-leading Kentucky Wesleyan, 75-64, at Nicoson Hall Saturday. Junior
Katy McIntosh recorded her second double-double of the season with 20 points and a career-high 12 rebounds.
The Panthers (15-7, 11-4) came into the day as the league's hottest team, winning each of their last five, but the Hounds overcame their tenacious defensive pressure, as well as a seven-minute field goal drought in the second half to pull within a game of the GLVC East Division lead.
UIndy led by as many as 13 late in the first, but KWC used its pressure "D” to orchestrate a 24-7 run in the final five minutes of the half, resulting in a 39-34 Panther lead at the break.
McIntosh contributed 15 points before the halftime buzzer.
UIndy bounced back with a 14-4 rally to start the second, capped by a 3-pointer by
Kristin Turner. UIndy retook the lead with 18:24 to go and never trailed the rest of the way despite not hitting a field goal for seven consecutive minutes midway through the half.
KWC pulled to within one point on three separate occasions, but the Hounds knocked down too many free throws down the stretch.
Joining McIntosh in double figures was redshirt-sophomore
Kirsten Gliesmann, who compiled 13 points, nine rebounds and four blocked shots. Senior
Sydney Weinert chipped in 11 points, eight boards and two blocks off the bench.
Turner finished with nine points to snap a string of 12 straight games in double figures.
On deck next week is the Hounds' final road game of the regular season. UIndy travels to Lewis Thursday, Feb. 21 for a 6:30 Eastern tip.
