Women's tennis overwhelms Lakers, 8-1

Brooke Boyts won both her matches against Lake Superior State.

INDIANAPOLIS –
After back-to-back matches against Division I opponents to start the season, the UIndy women's tennis team took care of business, 8-1, against D-II regional foe Lake Superior State at the UIndy Tennis Center.

The Greyhounds (1-2) took the lead in doubles, 2-1, with a pair of victories over the Lakers (10-10) of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. Brooke Boyts and Kasey Land won 8-3 at No. 3 in the first match off, followed by Alex Covington and Claire Liles with an 8-4 win at No. 2.

UIndy wouldn't lose again as it won all six singles matches in straight sets.

Macey Speer started it off with a 7-5, 6-0 win over Tess Marton at No. 2 and was immediately followed by Taylor Eckert with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Sarah Awe at No. 3. Allie Smith finished her sweep at No. 1 singles over Erin Anderson-Scott 6-1, 6-1 to for the match-deciding fifth point.

The Greyhounds wouldn't settle as Boyts earned her second win of the day with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Holly Daniel at No. 5, while Liles won again by defeating Lucy LaCosta 6-4, 6-2 at No. 6. Rachel Barger completed the singles sweep with a 6-1, 6-4 win at No. 4 over Kaitlynn Hutchinson.

UIndy takes a break to prepare for its Spring Break trip to Alabama to face Spring Hill on March 6 and West Alabama on March 9.
