INDIANAPOLIS –
The UIndy men's tennis team advanced in the 2013 Great Lakes Valley Conference Championship Tournament at the UIndy Tennis Center by upsetting Missouri-St. Louis, 5-1, on Friday afternoon.

The Greyhounds (6-4), the GLVC East three seed, won their first GLVC Tournament match since 2006 by taking down the GLVC West two seed Tritons (9-7).

The Hounds started the day by playing some of their best doubles of the season to open a commanding lead, 3-0.

Caleb Fellers and Luke Hubert started it off with an 8-5 win at No. 2. After 15 minutes of action, Fausto Cordova and Ryan Frankel followed with an 8-6 win at No. 1, while Alex Poe and Preston Swain completed the sweep minutes later with an 8-6 win at No. 3.

Frankel added the fourth point for UIndy with a 6-2, 6-3 win at No. 1 singles, but the fifth point would not come easily.

The Tritons put their lone point on the scoreboard at No. 3, but after trailing early in the second set, 2-1, Poe rattled off five games in a row to seal the match with a 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 5 over Irving Corrales.

The Greyhounds came back in the evening and dropped a 5-0 decision to national No. 40 Southern Indiana in the semifinals of the conference tournament.  The Screaming Eagles added a second victory over the Greyhounds in less than a week after the two teams closed the regular season last Saturday.

Southern Indiana swept through the doubles with an 8-1 win at No. 1, 8-3 at No. 2 and 8-4 at No. 3.

Michael Kuzaj then won over Cordova at No. 1 singles after he retired due to an injury and Juan Quiroz defeated Trevor Cox 6-1, 6-3 at No. 3 singles.

UIndy will play in a third-place match at 4 p.m. on Saturday against Rockhurst.
