INDIANAPOLIS –
The UIndy women's tennis team advanced in the Great Lakes Valley Conference Championship Tournament by defeating Missouri-St. Louis, 5-0, at the UIndy Tennis Center.

This is the first time that the women have won a conference tournament match since advancing to the finals in 2007.

UIndy started off well by winning all three doubles matches.  Alex Covington and Claire Liles were dominant at No. 3 with an 8-1 win, followed by Rachel Barger and Macey Speer with an 8-2 win at No. 2.

The top tandem of Taylor Eckert and Allie Smith trailed 6-3, but battled back to defeat Renee Verboven and Louisa Werner 9-7.

The Greyhounds started off well in singles with Smith and Eckert both winning the first set at No. 1 and No. 2 singles, while Speer dropped the first set at No. 3.  The matches at both No. 2 and No. 3 went into a third set, while the No. 4-6 matches were able to take the courts made available after Drury defeated Southern Indiana.

Smith battled point-for-point with Werner, the No. 14 player in the region, at No. 1 and eventually prevailed with a 6-4, 7-6 (1) win for the Hounds' fourth point.  Moments later, Brooke Boyts finished off a quick victory at No. 6 singles over Chandler Duchaine 6-2, 6-1 to clinch the victory.

The Greyhounds came back in the evening and dropped a 5-0 decision to No. 29 Drury in the semifinals of the GLVC Tournament.

The Panthers won 8-1 at No. 1, 8-3 at No. 2 and 8-2 at No. 3 to take the first three points of the match in doubles.

Drury closed out the match with a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 2 and 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 3.

The women return to the UIndy Tennis Center at 9 a.m. Saturday to play Rockhurst in the third-place match.
