ITA Midwest Region Rankings

SKILLMAN, N.J. –
The Intercollegiate Tennis Association released new regional rankings and UIndy women's tennis is well-represented in the Midwest Region.

The Greyhounds (10-4, 5-1 GLVC) are ranked sixth in the region after finishing third at the Great Lakes Valley Conference Championships with a 5-1 win over Midwest No. 7 Rockhurst on Saturday.  That was the best conference tournament finish for UIndy since reaching the championship match in 2007.

The Greyhounds were even better against comparable competition with a 9-2 D-II record that included a win over Midwest No. 8 Missouri-St. Louis and West Alabama, from the always tough South Region.

Individually, freshman Allie Smith is ranked as the No. 20 singles player in the region and No. 9 in doubles with junior Taylor Eckert.  The All-GLVC selection played No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles for UIndy in her first season of collegiate competition.

Smith had a team-best 13-7 mark in singles, including going 8-4 during dual matches, all at No. 1, with a 5-1 mark in the GLVC as she ended the year on a five-match winning streak.  In doubles, Smith tied for the team high with 12 wins, including 9-3 overall at No. 1 with Eckert (5-1 in the GLVC).
