Learfield Sports Directors' Cup Standings
UIndy All-Sports Success
CLEVELAND - University of Indianapolis Athletics moved from ninth to seventh in the NCAA Division II 2012-13 Learfield Sports Directors' Cup standings with the conclusion of the first four spring sports championships.
The seventh place finish by women's golf at the NCAA Championships contributed 72 points to give UIndy a total of 468 points. UIndy is just behind Great Lakes Valley Conference rival Drury in sixth (483) and Augustana (S.D.) (518) in fifth. Defending champion Grand Canyon is first with 681.5 points, followed by Midwest Region rivals Grand Valley State (669.25) and Ashland (653.5).
The Greyhounds added to the 136 points contributed by volleyball and football in the fall with 210 points from men's indoor track and field (sixth in NCAA Championships), wrestling (19th), women's swimming and diving (21st) and men's swimming and diving (22nd) at the D-II Winter Sports Festival. Men's and women's basketball contributed 66 more points with their appearances in the NCAA Tournament.
The final standings will be released on June 6 and UIndy will receive points from the NCAA regional appearance by men's golf and super regional appearance by softball. The Greyhounds also have male and female representatives at this weekend's NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Pueblo, Colo.
The Learfield Sports Directors' Cup was developed as a joint effort between the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and USA Today. Points are awarded based on each institution's finish in up to 14 sports -- seven women's and seven men's.
