Klay Fiechter, the 14th-ranked UIndy football team (2-0) recorded a convincing
51-20 win against visiting Saint Xavier Saturday night. Fiechter who broke off a go-ahead 49-yard scoring thrust in the second quarter, helping the Greyhounds to their eighth consecutive win on the Key Stadium turf.
A native of Bluffton, Ind., Fiechter came two yards short of his first career 200-yard game. He also added 47 yards receiving, all coming on a successful screen pass in the first half. Fellow runnings back
Joumeel McLaurine and
Matt Ripp also made solid contributions. McLaurine needed just seven carries to amass 58 yards (8.3 ypc), while Ripp found the end zone three times.
Ranked No. 4 in the latest NAIA poll, Saint Xavier led 14-13 midway through the second quarter, but the Cougars managed just six points in the final 37-plus minutes of play as the Hounds raced out to a big lead.

The UIndy defense finished with five interceptions to complicate matters. Five different Greyhounds accounted for the picks, including
John Strickland,
Todd Hacker,
Koby Orris,
Rob Dury and
Josh Bass. Bass, who also stars on the UIndy track and field team, had the longest return after hurdling a pair of would-be tacklers while sprinting 65 yards the other way.
The Hounds' longest play of the night came on a 75-yard hook-up from quarterback
Chris Mills to receiver
Greg Johnson. On the initial play of the second half, Mills went up top and hit a streaking Johnson in stride, as Johnson outran the SXU defense to the goal line.
Senior tight end
Joe Bell and freshman wide out
Kevin Teglia also added second-half TDs.

Meanwhile, redshirt-freshman linebacker
Derrick Bryant had 12 tackles for the second straight game to lead all players. Senior
