INDIANAPOLIS – Though their jerseys no longer read "Greyhounds," a number of former UIndy student-athletes continue to make their marks as professional basketball players. Former UIndy All-Americans David Logan (2001-05), Darius Adams (2009-11) and Adrian Moss (2010-12), and former all-region performer Cedric Moodie (2001-02) are all finding success on the hardwood in various parts of the world.
Â
After helping Maccabi Tel Aviv to both the finals of Israel's Winner League and the quarterfinals of the Euroleague last year, veteran-pro
David Logan gravitated to Germany's Basketball Bundesliga (or BBL), the highest-level league of professional basketball in Germany. The UIndy's all-time leading scorer and 2005 Division II Player of the Year averages 14.4 points and 2.9 assists for Berlin ALBA, who is currently positioned third in the BBL standings at 12-4.
Â
In addition, Berlin ALBA recently compiled an 8-2 record in the Eurocup's regular-season play, qualifying for the league's "Last 32" round starting later this week.
Â
Logan, the 2009-10 All-Polish League Player of the Year, has also played in the Euroleague for Panathinaikos in Greece (2011-12), Caja Laboral in Spain (2010-11) and Asseco Prokom in Poland (2009-10). Â
Â
Darius Adams also competes in the German BBL as a member of Eisbären Bremerhaven. A 2011 All-American at UIndy, Adams leads the entire league in scoring at 18.8 points per game, while also averaging 4.8 rebounds and 3.6 assists.
Â
The Decatur, Ill., native finished the 2012-13 season in the France ProA league after starting the year in the Ukraine Superleague. He's also previously played in Venezuela and the Dominican Republic.
Â
Adams was the Great Lakes Valley Conference's leading scorer his senior season at UIndy, with his 23.2 pg average good for seventh in Division II.
Â
A highlight for both Logan and Adams - as well as for UIndy basketball - came when the two former Hounds went head-to-head against each other back on Nov. 3, with Adams' Bremerhaven topping Logan's ALBA, 85-79, in front of some 18,000 spectators.Â
Â
Meanwhile, two other former Greyhounds are playing ball north of the border, as
Adrian Moss and
Cedric Moodie both lace it up in the National Basketball League (NBL) of Canada.
Â
After helping the London Lightning to their second-consecutive NBL title last season, Moss signed with the rival Island Storm in late November and is averaging 13.0 points and 4.2 assists in 12 games with the club. He hung a career-high 33 points and drained seven triples versus the Halifax Rainmen Dec. 8, just his third game with his new team. Overall, Moss ranks in the league's top 15 in assists per game, 3-point percentage (.411) and 3-pointers per game (1.9).
Â
As a rookie last year, Moss averaged 10.2 points and 5.1 assists on the champion Lightning. The Centralia, Ill., product scored a season-best 25 points in game two of the NBL Finals against Summerside, helping London cap a 39-9 season and take the 2013 NBL title.
Â
In his senior year at UIndy, Moss was named an NCAA D-II Third Team All-American by
The Basketball Times in 2011-12 after averaging 18.3 points and 5.3 assists and leading the Hounds to their first
Â
Also in the NBL is former UIndy standout Cedric Moodie. A teammate of Logan's on the 2001-02 Greyhounds, Moodie is currently a workhorse for the Brampton A's, leading the team in scoring (17.1 ppg), rebounding (6.4 rpg), assists (3.8 apg) and steals (1.5 spg). League-wide, he ranks ninth in scoring, fourth in 3-point accuracy (.445), third in free throw percentage (.884) and 11th in steals. He also has five double-doubles this season, including a 31-point, 10-rebound performance versus the Moncton Miracles Nov. 1, 2013.Â
Â
Moodie spent his first three collegiate seasons at Ball State before averaging a team-high 16.8 points per game as a senior at UIndy. He previously played for the NBL's Halifax Rainmen in 2012-13 after competing for a number of years in Argentina.
