INDIANAPOLIS- UIndy closed out the 36th annual Midwest Classic Sunday afternoon, with the Greyhounds taking 18th as a team.
Nick Crume's second-place finish at 133 paced the UIndy team.
Top-ranked Maryville took the 2014 team title, with 127.5 team points. No. 8 McKendree took second, amassing 121.0 team points, and #15 Western State came in third with 102.0 points. Shorter (85.5) and #19 Upper Iowa (83.0) rounded out the top five team finishers. UIndy tallied 30.5 team points to take 18th in the 26-team event.
Crume (12-4), who went 2-0 on Day One of the event, advanced to the finals of the 133 bracket via an injury forfeit by Upper Iowa's Matt Paulus. He then went up against Ashland's Michael Labry, who is currently ranked #2 in the nation and is a three-time Midwest Classic champion, and fell in a narrow 7-6 decision to take runner-up honors in the bracket.
With the conclusion of the Midwest Classic, UIndy has now closed out its competition for the 2014 calendar year. The Greyhounds will pick up their season Jan. 4 at the Central Missouri Duals.
