INDIANAPOLIS – Up 10 with eight minutes to go, the No. 4 UIndy men's basketball team (22-2, 14-2 GLVC) orchestrated a game-clinching 19-4 run to seal a
92-67 win versus 20th-ranked and visiting Southern Indiana Thursday night. Junior
Joe Lawson complied 25 points and 10 rebounds while senior
Tyrae Robinson added 18 points, eight assists and six boards in the Greyhounds' 10th straight victory.
In addition to pushing the Hounds' win streak to double digits, the victory also avenged the last defeat suffered by the Hounds.  More significantly, it marked the 81st win for UIndy since 2010, setting a new program record for victories in a four-year period.
Â
After USI shot a staggering 44 free throws in the teams' first meeting Jan. 18, the Hounds turned the tables on the Screaming Eagles Thursday, as UIndy earned 41 trips to line compared to just 15 by USI.
 Â
The Greyhounds' high-octane offense was on full display, especially early. Pushing the ball at every opportunity, the home team jumped out to a quick 10-2 lead and continued to push the score to 25-9 at the 12-minute mark.
 Â
UIndy would eventually surpass 50 points before the first-half buzzer, taking a 53-35 lead into the half. The Hounds racked up 17 fast-break points in the first 20-minutes and finished with 27.
Â
USI (19-5, 11-5) slowly cut into the margin after the break, whittling it down to single digits midway through the second half. Led by double-double machine Aaron Nelson, the Eagles' improved rebounding helped narrow the gap.
Â
With the score 73-63 UIndy and eight minutes to go, Lawson sank four free throws in short order to regain some momentum for the Hounds. That momentum quickly grew when Nelson picked up foul No. 5 on ensuingthe possession after junior
Brennan McElroy drew a charge.
Â
With their biggest inside presence on the bench, the Eagles managed just four points the balance of the game. Sandwiched between USI's final two buckets were 12 unanswered points from UIndy, with 10 of those coming in transition.
Â
Lawson notched his fifth double-double of the year and third in his last six games. Robinson, meanwhile recorded his second straight contest with eight dimes and just one turnover.
Â
Three other Greyhounds finished in double figures, including
Jared Grady (14 points), McElroy (12) and
Reece Cheatham (11). McElroy added eight boards and three steals.
UIndy plays its final regular-season home game this Saturday when it hosts Bellarmine. UIndy will honor its five seniors before the contest. Contrary to the normal Saturday start time, tip is scheduled for 7:45 p.m.
Notes: The 25-point margin marked the largest Greyhound victory against a ranked team since a 77-45 rout of No. 20 Saint Joseph's Nov. 26, 2001 … Nelson, who fouled out with 7:02 to go, leads all of Division II with 19 double-doubles on the season.Â
