ST. LOUIS – The UIndy women's tennis squad fell 5-1 to host Missouri-St. Louis Sunday in an effort to clinch their second consecutive Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament third-place finish.

The Hounds (11-7, 5-1 GLVC), ranked seventh in the Midwest Region, got behind early to the sixth-ranked Tritons (17-6, 5-1) in the closely-contested doubles action.

UIndy's Allie Smith and Taylor Eckert won No. 1 doubles over Louisa Werner and Nina Bellanger, 8-4, to improve their record to 13-5 this season and give the Hounds their lone point.

Selenay Heper and Macey Speer dropped a close 9-8 (7-5) decision in No. 2 to UMSL's Lina Parra and Natalia Carvalhais. Brooke Boyts and Kasey Land lost just their third doubles match of the year in No. 3, 8-5 to Renee Verboven and Danielle Kenkel.

UMSL won the first three completed singles bouts to claim the third-place finish.

Werner handed Maria Mendes a 6-4, 6-1 defeat in No. 2 singles, and Verboven won one court over against Eckert, 6-4, 6-2. Leanne Cantalupo won 6-2, 6-0 over Boyts in the No. 6 draw, marking the second time all spring the UIndy junior failed to score for the Hounds (first was Feb. 8 against D-I Illinois State).

Smith and Heper were each leading their respective singles matches, and Speer was battling in a close No. 5 draw when the match ended.

The Greyhounds now wait until Tuesday, April 29 to find out their NCAA Regional fate. The top seven ranked teams in the Midwest earn a spot in the regional tournament, hosted by the top two seeds. The selection show begins at 8:30 p.m. ET on NCAA.com.
