EVANSVILLE, Ind. –
The second game Friday for the UIndy baseball team saw everything from a four-hour weather delay to a walk-off balk, the latter spelling the end of the Greyhounds run in the Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament.

Truman State (26-27), the GLVC's 7-seed, defeated 3-seed UIndy 13-12 in 10 innings to advance to the semifinal of the tournament. After losing 7-6 earlier Friday to 2-seed Drury, the Hounds had to defeat 3-seed Truman in the loser's bracket to remain alive in the double-elimination tournament.

The teams combined for 25 runs and 36 hits in a game that ended over eight hours after it began (with four and a half hours of actual game play).

Truman scored twice in the bottom of the opening inning off of UIndy starter Evan Eyer, and the Greyhounds answered with a run in the second off of Luke Andrade's RBI single to left.

After the bottom of the second, the weather radar came into account, as a string of storm cells appeared just outside of Evansville. The result was a suspension that lasted from 4:05 to 8:00 (CT), and heavy precipitation that soaked the field.

When play resumed, it was under the lights and a light rain nearly four hours later.

UIndy (30-23) tied the game in the top of the third, with the new environment immediately making an impact. With a runner on second and two outs, Joe Trennepohl hit a high fly ball to right field, but Truman's Jarod Hahn lost it in the lights, resulting in a game-tying hit that scored Jake Weinzapfel.

Matt Pate came in for the Hounds to relieve Eyer after the long break.

Paul Trenhaile led off the bottom of the fifth with a triple for the 'Dogs, putting the go-ahead run 90 feet from home. Hahn followed with a walk, but Alex Ritchie cut him down trying to steal second. Pate followed with a strikeout, and got Dave Gambino to pop out to get out of the inning.

The defensive stop parlayed into a five-run sixth for the Greyhounds – all coming with two outs on the board. With Kenny Mahala on third, Andrade drove in his second run of the game on a sharp single to left field. Sean McCracken and Weinzapfel followed with back-to-back doubles, increasing the UIndy lead. A couple batters later, Alex Ritchie singled up the middle to plate Weinzapfel and Anthony Asalon, making it 7-2.

UIndy added three more the following frame on just two hits. Dan Eliopulos was hit by a pitch with the bases full, and Andrade hit into a double play that brought home another run. Jacobs capped the inning by scoring on a wild pitch to make it 10-3.

After scoring three through the first six innings, Truman scored 10 in the final four. The Bulldogs sliced into the lead with four runs in the bottom half on four hits, bringing the score to 10-7. Pate was pulled during the inning, finishing his night with four-plus innings, allowing five hits, five walks and two runs while fanning three.

The Hounds got a run back in the top of the eighth when Trennepohl drove in Weinzapfel, but the Bulldogs added four for the second inning in a row in the bottom to knot the game, 11-11. Truman scored the four runs on three hits and a UIndy fielding error.

UIndy wasted no time putting up a run in extras. Eliopulos hit a clutch two-out single that brought in Trennepohl, making it 12-11.

A Greyhound fielding error in the bottom of the inning aided Truman, as the 'Dogs scored an unearned run to tie the contest at 12-12. Two batters later, TSU had runners on the corners with one out. UIndy reliever Brett Collins attempted to pick off a runner and committed a balk, bringing in the game-winning run.

Every Greyhound starter recorded a hit and all but one scored a run. Trennepohl led the offensive charge with a 4 for 6 day at the dish, driving in two and scoring two. Weinzapfel went 3 for 4 with three runs and a RBI. Asalon, Ritchie, Jacobs and Andrade each tallied multiple hits.

The Hounds now wait until Sunday night for the NCAA selection show to find out their seed in the NCAA Midwest Regional.
