2013-14 Final Directors' Cup Standings
CLEVELAND – The University of Indianapolis capped an outstanding 2013-14 sports calendar with its highest-ever finish in the Learfield Sports Directors' Cup standings, placing fourth among 312 Division II institutions. Perennially one of the top athletic programs in NCAA Division II, UIndy is one of only five D-II institutions to notch three consecutive top-10 finishes in the vaunted Directors' Cup standings.
Overall, this is the fourth time in school history that the Greyhounds have finished in the top five and sixth in the top 10. It also marks the fourth top-10 showing for the Hounds in the last six years, as well as the 11th top-20 finish in the previous 12.
The Learfield Sports Directors' Cup was developed as a joint effort between the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and USA Today. Points are awarded based on each institution's finish in up to 14 sports -- seven women's and seven men's. Complete standings and the scoring structure can be found on NACDA's website at
www.directorscup.org.
UIndy finished the year with 649.75 total points, just four points behind third-place Central Missouri. After back-to-back runner-up finishes, Grand Valley State (Mich.) climbed back to the top to earn its Division II-leading ninth Directors' Cup title. West Texas A&M, fresh off winning the 2014 D-II softball national championship, was a distant second.
Including UIndy, three of the five finishers and five of the top 14 hail from the Midwest Region.
Looking at the athletic department's combined success the last three seasons, UIndy has had quite a run recently. Not only have the Greyhounds notched three straight top-10 Director's Cup finishes – a program first, but they've also earned three consecutive Great Lakes Valley Conference All-Sports Trophies while also capturing the school's first GLVC Commissioner's Cup this year.
Other top GLVC finishes in the Directors' Cup included Drury (11th), Lewis (28th) and Southern Indiana (32nd).
The Greyhounds are also consistently the top athletic program in the state of Indiana, claiming the highest-ranked athletic program in the state five times in the last seven years.
