ABOUT THE KNIGHTSThe Bellarmine Knights are 8-4 (3-1 GLVC) this season, and most recently had a three-game win streak snapped in an 83-71 loss at 15th-ranked Drury.
Whitney Hartlage (11.8 points per game) and Destony Curry (11.4) lead the team in scoring, and Morgan Clemons paces the team with 6.9 rebounds per game.
BU sits right in the middle of the GLVC pack with a +4.1 scoring margin, but is just 13th in field goal percentage at 40.4% as a team. The Knights excel at the charity stripe, ranking fourth in the conference and 29th in the nation shooting 75.3 percent on free throws.
Bellarmine Head Coach Chancellor Dugan is in her third season with the Knights, but is no stranger to the Great Lakes Valley Conference. She spent eight seasons (1991-1999) at Southern Indiana, leading the team to the NCAA Division II National Championship game in 1997 and earning back-to-back GLVC Coach of the Year honors in 1996-97 and 1997-98. Dugan then spent 13 seasons at the helm of D-I Florida Atlantic before joining the Knights in 2012.
The Hounds have faced the Knights 68 times, more than any other opponent in program history. Bellarmine holds a 38-30 all-time series advantage, but UIndy has won the last three and seven of the last nine contests.
ABOUT THE SCREAMING EAGLESSouthern Indiana is 11-3 (3-1 GLVC) this season, currently sitting second behind Lewis in the GLVC East standings.
Double-double machine Anna Hackert leads the squad with 15.4 points and 11.6 rebounds per game, and has already picked up two GLVC Player of the Week nods this season. Mary O'Keefe is second on the team averaging 11 points and 4.8 boards per game.
USI is second in the GLVC and 19th in D-II with a +16.0 scoring margin, helped in large part by the third-ranked field goal percentage in the conference (.443). The Screaming Eagles also have active hands defensively, accounting for the best steal rate in the GLVC (10.5 per game).
Southern Indiana alum Rick Stein is in his 16th season as head man. He joined the Eagles' program in 1991-92 as a student assistant under Dugan, and has amassed over 400 wins as assistant and head coach for USI.
UIndy and USI have a long history dating back to 1979-80. The Hounds lead the all-time series 38-29, but dropped both games last season.
LAST WEEKUIndy split a pair of road contests against GLVC West opponent last week. Against William Jewell Thursday night the Hounds suffered their most lopsided loss of the season in a 74-44 defeat. They shot a season-low 27 percent from the floor, including a 5-for-22 mark from long range.
The Crimson and Grey bounced back Saturday in a 60-52 victory at Rockhurst.
Nicole Anderson scored 19 points to lead the team.
Complete recaps and box scores from the games are on pgs. 12-13 of the notes.
BACK AND FORTHIn their last nine games the Greyhounds have alternated wins and losses. A victory against Bellarmine would mark UIndy's second win streak of the season and first since back-to-back decisions over Ohio Dominican (Nov. 29) and Saint Joseph's (Dec. 3). The Hounds haven't lost consecutive games since dropping their first three games of the year.
"THE NIC"UIndy starts a four-game home stretch this week against Bellarmine and Southern Indiana. Next week McKendree and Illinois Springfield visit the Circle City to face the Hounds, who are 3-2 this season in Nicoson Hall.
OFFENSIVE STRUGGLESUIndy is in the bottom three of the conference in average scoring (16th, 59.6 ppg), field goal percentage (14th, 40.1%) and three-point shooting (15th, 30.5%). Last season's squad finished in the top ten in each category for UIndy's single-season history.
