KANSAS CITY, Mo.- The women's tennis team began their quest for a Great Lakes Valley Conference Women's Tennis Tournament championship Friday morning, facing off with the West Division's four-seed Rockhurst.The Greyhounds, the East Division's top seed, came out on top with a 5-0 win over the Hawks to move onto the semifinals of the tournament.
Doubles competition brought the first three wins for the Greyhounds. Sophomore/freshman duo
Stephanie Hirsch and
Florence Renard topped Ana Santos and Fabi Juarez 8-1 after the two Hounds earned 2015 All-GLVC Women's Tennis Postseason Awards the night before, including Hirsch taking GLVC Player of the Year accolades. Juniors

Macey Speer defeated Emma and Alex Schelble 9-8 after a 7-4 tiebreaker that ended in favor of the Greyhounds. UIndy senior

Dana Olsen overcame Rockhurst's Maddy Kayser and Kim Vrugteveen 9-7.
With the three wins from the doubles competition the Greyhounds were up 3-0 and needed only two more match wins to secure a victory. The first two wins in singles play came from Boyts with Smith right behind. Botys topped Kayser in two sets of 6-3 and 6-0. Smith brought in a 6-2, 6-0 triumph over Santos. After the two wins in the sixth and third singles slot completing the remainder of the singles matches were unnecessary.
This success moves UIndy to the GLVC Championship semifinals, where they will play West Division three-seed Missouri-St. Louis Saturday at 10:00 a.m. EST. Â
