INDIANAPOLIS – The Greyhound volleyball team fell to sixth-ranked Colorado School of Mines 3-1 (18-25, 26-24, 25-19, 25-22) Friday, marking the third straight loss and second to a top-ten team at the UIndy Volleyball Tournament.
The Greyhounds (2-5) fell into a familiar pattern in the defeat, winning the opening set before being knocked back on their heels in subsequent close sets. UIndy hit .364 in the opening frame, claiming an early match advantage with a 25-18 victory.
In the second set the Orediggers (5-1) held a sizeable 20-13 lead before the Hounds came roaring back with a stellar 11-3 run, putting their guests on the brink of facing a sweep. Instead, Colorado Mines scored three points in a row – including two service aces – to steal the set and even the match.
CSM led for most of the third set en route to a 25-19 victory, taking a 2-1 match edge along the way. The Orediggers then won a narrow 25-22 fourth set to seal the victory.

Hailey Brown (14 kills and 14 digs) and junior
Natalie Wichern (39 assists, 10 digs) each recorded double-doubles.
Junior
Becca Lira and
Shelby Ruffner each tallied double-figure kills, followed by six each from freshman
Katie Voelz and sophomore
Kacee Salyers. Freshman
Bri Heffernan turned in another strong performance with 28 digs.
The Hounds return to action Saturday, facing No. 3 Minnesota Duluth at 11:15 a.m. before wrapping up their weekend against Ashland at 7:00 p.m. The final day of the UIndy Tournament begins at 9:00 a.m. with a match between the No. 3 Orediggers and No. 10 Wheeling Jesuit.
