Kieran Casey,
Emily Odle and
Alex Cushman set school records in their respective meets.
Every spring, the nation's top runners descend on Southern California for the annual three-day event. The meet hosts upwards of 15,000 of America's best athletes from the high school and college ranks, and past participants include names such as Carl Lewis, Marion Jones and Allen Johnson.
Cushman's time of 29:36.61 in the men's 10,000 not only broke his previous school record by nearly a half-minute (30:02), but it also places the senior among the top-ten times in D-II for the run.
The first of two new female school records was set Thursday, when senior Indiana University transfer
Emily Odle also set a new school mark in the 10,000 meter run. Odle finished 10th in her meet with a new personal-best time of 36:11.85, narrowly besting Erin Webb's previous school record of 37:18.42 The time is an NCAA Provisional mark and puts Odle in the top-15 of Division II.
Kieran Casey followed on Friday, breaking Maria Harriman's 15-year-old school record in the women's 1500 meter run. The sophomore's time of 4:27.06 placed her 22nd in the 53-man field comprised primarily of D-I student-athletes and is also good for the top NCAA Division-II Provision mark.
Kameron Casey joined fellow senior
Joel Keller in the collegiate section of the men's 3000 meter steeplechase on Thursday, each recording top-25 finishes among collegiate runners. Casey placed ninth in the section two heat and third among D-II competitors with an NCAA provisional time of 9:16.77. Meanwhile, Keller's time of 9:11.67 was also an NCAA provisional mark and good for 12th overall in section three.
The remainder of the Greyhound track and field program will be at Indiana Wesleyan University in the Indiana Little State Championships.
