INDIANAPOLIS – The UIndy women's golf team was named the No. 2 seed at the upcoming 2016 NCAA Division II East Super Regional, released Monday. Fresh off winning a record fifth straight Great Lakes Valley Conference title last weekend, the defending-national-champion Greyhounds will head to Panther Creek Country Club in Springfield, Ill., for the 12-team regional May 2-4.
UIndy will join five other GLVC teams in the field, including Southern Indiana (4 seed), Missouri-St. Louis (5), Illinois Springfield (10), Lewis (11) and William Jewell (12). GLIAC-champion Grand Valley State was awarded the top seed, while GMAC-champ Trevecca Nazarene (9) will also compete.
Each of the four super regionals will consist of both team and individual competition conducted concurrently, with 12 teams and six individuals from non-qualifying teams at each site (up from nine teams and four individuals last year). All participants will compete throughout the 54 holes of competition, with the top-three teams along with the top-three individuals not with an advancing team moving on to the championships.
The 2016 NCAA Division II Women's Golf Championships will be held May 18-21 at CommonGround Golf Course in Aurora, Colo. The event will be part of the 2016 NCAA Division II Championships Festival. Metropolitan State University of Denver and the Denver Sports Commission will serve as the hosts.
The Hounds will be making their 10th consecutive trip to the NCAA postseason. Last season, UIndy won its fourth straight super regional before going on to win the Division II
national championship, becoming the first non-Florida-based school to win the Division II title.
