INDIANAPOLIS – Both nationally-ranked Greyhound tennis teams are headed back to the NCAAs, having been selected to represent the Midwest Region in Tuesday night's Division II tennis selection shows.
The No. 21 men (17-2) are fresh off their first Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament Championship since 1995, and earned the right to host one site of this weekend's regional by being named the top team in the Midwest.
As the top seed, UIndy will host four-seed Southern Indiana (17-5) and five-seed Drury (12-8) in the regional, which will be played Saturday and Sunday at Center Grove High School in Greenwood, Ind. The Hounds are making their third consecutive trip to the NCAAs and 10th overall, and last season under Head Coach
Malik Tabet advanced to the program's first-ever NCAA "Sweet 16."
UIndy has defeated both potential opponents already this season, dropping the Lakers 8-1 back on March 25, and topping the Screaming Eagles twice, most recently in the GLVC Championship match.
Site two of the Midwest Regional will be hosted by two-seed Ferris State (21-4), the GLIAC champs, and also features three-seed Grand Valley State (16-7), six-seed Missouri-St. Louis (17-5) and seven-seed Lewis (12-9).
The No. 24 Greyhound women (13-7) earned the three-seed in their respective Midwest Regional, and will travel back to Romeoville, Ill. - the location of last weekend's conference tournament - where the two-seed Lewis Flyers (18-4) are hosting the Greyhounds, six-seed Tiffin (21-6) and seven-seed Davis & Elkins (14-11).
Much like the men, the UIndy women advanced to the program's first-ever "Sweet 16" a year ago after winning as site hosts. The Hounds are making their second consecutive trip to the NCAA Tournament and seventh overall.
UIndy hasn't met Tiffin in a dual match competition since Mar. 5, 2011, an 8-1 Greyhound win during the regular season.
Drury (18-3) earned the region's top seed, and hosts four-seed Northwood (17-3), and five-seed Grand Valley State (23-6).
