UIndy finishes seventh in final Directors’ Cup standings

CLEVELAND – For the fifth time in as many years, the University of Indianapolis athletics department secured a top-10 finish in the prestigious Learfield Directors' Cup standings, placing seventh on the final Division II list. UIndy is now one of only two athletics programs in all of Division II to have finished in the top 10 each of the last five seasons, joining this year's champion Grand Valley State.

The Learfield Directors' Cup was developed as a joint effort between the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and USA Today. Points are awarded based on each institution's finish in up to 14 sports – seven women's and seven men's. Complete standings and the scoring structure can be found on NACDA's website at www.directorscup.org.

Sitting in 24th after the winter standings, UIndy vaulted into the top 10 with a strong spring. The women's golf team led the way with 90 points scored after its runner-up performance at the NCAA DII Championships in May. Both tennis teams advanced to the "Sweet 16" this spring, scoring 64 points apiece, followed by baseball (50 pts), women's outdoor track and field (25) and softball (25). Men's golf also advanced to NCAA play, but due to the seven-team limit for each gender, it did not officially register any points.

Winter highlights included a 13th-place showing at nationals by the UIndy wrestlers (63 pts), and at least 35 points apiece from men's basketball (50), men's swimming and diving (45) and both men's (37.5) and women's (35.5) indoor track and field.

UIndy football and men's soccer each would have chipped in 25 pts in the fall season, though, like men's golf, only one could be counted.

By Directors' Cup standards, UIndy has consistently been the top athletic program in the state of Indiana. The Greyhounds have earned the highest Directors' Cup ranking in the state in their respective division six times in the last eight years, with 2015-16 still to be decided. See below for a breakdown.
