Women's soccer's season ends in loss in conference quarterfinals

LEBANON, ILL. - The University of Indianapolis Greyhounds' women's soccer team's season came to an end on Sunday with a 2-1 loss to the McKendree Bearcats in the conference quarterfinals.

The Bearcats took the early lead, Hailey Porter scoring in the 16th to put the hosts ahead 1-0. Grace Neidhardt doubled the lead just after halftime in the 49th.

Stephanie Burdsall closed the gap with a goal in the 74th minute, but the Hounds did not find the net again and came up short, 2-1.

The Bearcats dominated the flow of the game, shooting 19 times to the Hounds' six. 10 of the Bearcats' shots were on frame, as were four of the Hounds' shots.

HOUND BYTES:
Head coach Holly Cox: "Tough loss today. McKendree fully deserved the win today. Proud of the team's efforts this season. They set out to make postseason play and they did exactly that. Excited for what the future has in store for this team. If they commit to working hard and continuing to improve, who knows what can be accomplished next season? I do want to thank Hope Huelsmann for the three years of tireless work she has put in. An absolute pleasure to coach and she will be missed by the UIndy staff and her teammates
."

The Hounds will return nearly their entire roster in 2018 as they seek to improve on their first conference tournament appearance since 2011.
