Hounds head to top-ranked Ashland Monday night

ON TAP
UIndy plays its final game before the Christmas holiday when it travels to top-ranked Ashland Monday night.

ABOUT ASHLAND
One of the top programs in Division II, Ashland enters the night on an impressive 48-game winning streak. The Eagles completed their first-ever undefeated season in 2016-17, culminating in their second national championship in the last five years. Their last loss came in the 2016 NCAA Midwest Regional semifinal – an 86-60 defeat versus Drury University.

Ashland has been dominant this season, out-scoring opponents by an average final of 98-62 – good for second in Division II in scoring margin and third in points per game. Individually, eight Eagles average at least sevens per game, including two 20-point scorers. Laina Snyder leads the team at 20.6 ppg, followed closely by Renee Stimpert at an even 20 per.

HOUNDS vs. EAGLES
With Ashland being a former member of the GLVC, Monday's opponents have faced off 35 times since their first meeting in 1985, with UIndy owning a 20-15 advantage. The Eagles  have won four of the last five, however, including an 88-66 win in Ashland last November. UIndy's Sydney Brackemyre scored 26 points on 10 of 16 shooting that day, but the rest of the Greyhounds combined to shot just 28 percent from the floor. Martha Burse added 16 points and eight assists.

LAST TIME OUT
The Greyhounds made it two in a row with a 75-64 home win versus NAIA-Division-II No. 15 Indiana Wesleyan last Thursday. The Hounds' season-high point total was fueled by a 14-for-26 shooting performance by senior Martha Burse, who finished with a career-best 34 points –  most by a Greyhound since Kristin Turner's 36-point output at Northern Kentucky in February of 2012.

CHARITY WORK
UIndy hit a season-high 19 free throws on 22 free throw attempts (.864) versus IWU. Among the Greyhounds making at least one FT per game, senior Devin Ferguson leads the team at 76.2 percent for the season. Freshman Taylor Drury has shot just 10 free throws to date but has made nine of them.

1K CLUB
Burse is quickly approaching a major scoring milestone, as the Kankakee, Ill., native enters Monday night's game just 14 points from 1,000 for her collegiate career. She scored 228 points in two seasons at crosstown IUPUI before assuming the leading-scorer's role for the Hounds to sit at 986 points for her career.

GRAND LARCENY
In addition, Burse leads all Division II players with 42 steals on the season, with her 3.8 steals-per-game average good for fifth in DII. She has recorded at least one steal in all 11 games to date, including an impressive seven thefts in each of the last two contests.

Burse also ranks eighth in DII in field goals made (91) and 10th in scoring (22.7 ppg). She is currently on pace to set school records for both points per game and steals per game.

DIME DROPPERS
UIndy is one of only three GLVC teams with two players averaging more than three assists per game (Maryville, Lewis). Ferguson leads the team at 3.1 assists per night, just ahead of junior Alexa Bailey at 3.0.

DOUBLE-FIGURE DEBUT
After missing the first 10 games of the season, sophomore Claire Carlton made her season debut Thursday versus Indiana Wesleyan. The Granger, Ind., product racked up 11 points, five rebounds and a steal in 26 minutes played. Prior to last week, Carlton was one of a number of Greyhounds missing time due to injury, including starting post player Ashley Montanez.
