INDIANAPOLIS – After a solid performance in her very first weekend as a Greyhound, UIndy student-athlete
Dani Turner was named the Great Lakes Valley Conference Softball Player of the Week, as announced by league officials Monday. The senior transfer from Southeast Missouri State led the Greyhounds in most offensive categories, including batting average (.444), on-base percentage (.500) and slugging (1.056).
Â
Turner led the Hounds to a 3-2 record at the Falcon Frenzy in Montevallo, Ala. After starting the trip with a tight 5-4 loss to top-ranked and defending-national-champ North Alabama, UIndy ran off three of the next four, all against Division II competition. Turner reached base safely in all five games while scoring at least one run in each contest.
Â
The Evansville, Ind., native went 2 for 4 with a double versus the defending champs in the season opener, then went on to hit three home runs in the next two games. She hit her first dinger as a Greyhound versus Delta State Friday before blasting two homers in a 6-2 win versus Mississippi College Saturday, finishing 3 for 4 with two runs and two RBIs in the latter contest. She coaxed a walk and a hit by pitch versus Lee Sunday to up her OBP before recording two more hits, including another double, in Sunday's 8-3 victory against Shorter.
Â
Turner and her teammates head to Nashville, Tenn., for a four-game slate at the Music City Invitational Feb. 17-18.
