BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The UIndy swimming and diving teams concluded their season Saturday with the final day of competition at the 2017 NCAA Division II Championships. The four-day meet was part of the annual NCAA Division II National Championships Festival, held this year at the Crossplex in Birmingham, Ala.
The Greyhound men finished with 136 points to finish 11th in the final team standings, marking the highest team finish for the UIndy men in 10 years. The women, meanwhile, scored points at nationals for the first time 2014, placing 30th overall.
SATURDAY
The Greyhounds tacked on three more All-America nods Saturday to bring their final total to 16.
Rodrigo Codo Berti captured his fourth national accolades and third first-team honor with a fourth-place performance in the 200 back. He touched in 1:45.85, coming just shy of his own school record.

Fellow-Brazilian
Guilherme Zavaneli also notched his fourth All-America recognition, taking seventh in the evening's consolation final of the 100 free with a time of 44.68.

Later, in the the very last event of the meet, both Berti and Zavaneli as well as
Demetrakis Haholiades and
Ante Lucev collected All-America Honorable Mention with a time of 2:59.58 in the 400 free relay, good for 12th overall.
A number of other Hounds raced in the morning prelims, including Athina Konstinidi (200 breast, 18th),
Bartosz Zarzecki (200 breast, 27th),
Vitor Botana (1650 free, 21st), and the women's 400 free relay of
Stefanie Haholiades,
Mary Niklarz,
Sotia Neophytou and
Malvina Shoukri (24th).
FRIDAY
The Greyhounds had their best day yet, earning All-America honors in eight events – including four first-team accolades – while breaking four school records. The outburst netted the teams a combined 79 points Friday (72 men, seven women). The Greyhound men vaulted up to 11th in the team standings, while the women sit in 27th with one day remaining.

The UIndy divers took center stage with a pair of stellar performances on the 1-meter board. The freshmen tandem of
Payton Staman and
Josh Zylstra each finished in the top eight in the afternoon prelims to secure a spot in the evening final as well as All-America laurals.

Staman went on to amass 472.00 points in six dives to take fifth place overall, good for the highest-ever national finish by a Greyhound diver. Meanwhile, Zylstra, who earlier earned All-America Honorable Mention on the 3-meter board, scored 435.60 points to finish eighth.

Sophomore
Rodrigo Codo Berti garnered his second All-America First Team nod of the meet with a seventh-place showing in the 100 back. His morning prelim time of 47.81 broke his own school record.

Berti was part of another All-America and school-record-breaking effort, swimming the anchor leg for the men's 800 free relay that tied for seventh in the championship final. He was joined by
Guilherme Zavaneli,
Vitor Botana and
Romano Hoffmann, with the quartet slicing four seconds off the previous UIndy record with their time of 6:33.85.

Four other Greyhounds garnered All-America Honorable Mention on the day. Zavaneli and Botana began the evening by placing third and fourth, respectively, in the men's 500 free consolation final. Freshman
Athina Konstantinidi and senior
Bartosz Zarzecki advanced to their respective 100 breast consolation finals, with Konstantinidi placing second and Zarzecki taking eighth. Both the latter student-athletes set new program benchmarks.

THURSDAY
Sophomore
Guilherme Zavaneli earned All-America honors in the 200 free, scoring 16 points for the men's team with a third-place finish – highest by a Greyhound man since 2010. In addition, he twice broke his own school record in the event Thursday, with his finals time of 1:35.34 besting the previous mark (from 2008, before he first broke it at the GLVC Championships last month) by a full two seconds.

A pair of UIndy relays teams also swan in the evening finals. After slotting 15th in the morning prelims, the women's 400 medley relay team of
Agnieszka Malecka,
Athina Konstantinidi,
Sotia Neophytou and
Malvina Shoukri finished fourth in the consolation final with a time of 3:48.33. Earlier in the day, they combined for a 3:48.09 in the prelim, breaking a four-year-old program mark.

Bucky Coonradt, Zavaneli,
Romano Hoffmann and
Ante Lucev also advanced to the evening consolation final, placing fifth with 1:21.26 – good for another school record.

Both quartets earned All-America Honorable Mention.

Konstantinidi (22nd, 400 IM) and Neophytou (23rd, 100 fly) also raced in the morning prelims, as did the women's 200 free relay (21st) and the men's 400 medley relay (DQ).
WEDNESDAY
Sophomore
Rodrigo Codo Berti provided one of the highlights, earning All-America Honorable Mention in the 200 individual medley. A five-time All-American as a freshman last season, Berti notched his first national award this year is his very first event. The
São Paulo, Brazil native notched a lifetime best with a 1:48.12, good for fifth place in the B final of the 200 IM.

Berti wasn't the only Greyhound to secure All-America Honorable Mention. Freshman diver and newly-crowned GLVC-Diver-of-the-Year
Josh Zylstra placed ninth on the 3-meter board, posting a score of 425.90 in his first national completion.

With representation at nationals for the first time since 2014, the UIndy women competed in the 200 medley relay prelims on day one. The quartet of
Malvina Shoukri,
Athina Konstantinidi,
Sotia Neophytou and
Stefanie Haholiades came up just short of qualifying for the evening finals, posting a time of 1:44.53.
