Matthews' All-America honor highlights final day at Indoor Nationals

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The UIndy track & field teams concluded their indoor season Saturday with the final day of competition at the 2017 NCAA Division II Championships Friday. The three-day meet was part of the annual NCAA Division II National Championships Festival, held this year at the Crossplex in Birmingham, Ala.

SATURDAY
All three UIndy qualifiers competed Saturday, starting with Treyvon Matthews in the 60m hurdles. Facing DII's best hurdlers, Matthews crossed in 8.11, good for sixth overall. He became the first Greyhound to earn All-America status in the event since Nick Hargrave in 2006. In addition, his three points tied the UIndy men's team for 42nd in the final team standings.

Meanwhile, two throwers entered the shot put cage for the Hounds. Senior Miranda Braun placed 17th among the best women in the nation, topping out at 13.11 meters. On the men's side, redshirt-sophomore Austin Hogan connected for a toss of 16.61m, good for 13th overall. Both student-athletes were the GLVC champions in the  event on their respective sides.

FRIDAY
Just one Greyhound was in action on day two of the national meet. Junior Treyvon Matthews took the track for the 60m hurdles. Racing in lane one in heat two of two, the Huron, Ohio native posted a time of 8.02 seconds to grab the seventh seed in tomorrow's eight-man final. Matthews, UIndy's record holder in the event, is guaranteed All-America status.
