Hounds close season with Senior Day loss to Parkside

INDIANAPOLIS – The UIndy women's basketball team (8-20, 5-13 GLVC) wrapped up the 2017-18 season with a hard-fought 79-73 loss versus Wisconsin-Parkside Saturday afternoon at Nicoson Hall. Prior to tip, the athletics department recognized the team's four senior student-athletes: Martha Burse, Sarah Costello, Devin Ferguson and Tina Negoescu.

HOW IT HAPPENED
After the Rangers (9-21, 5-13) managed a strong close to the second quarter, the Hounds found themselves in a 10-point hole two minutes into the second half. UIndy came storming back, however, with a 24-point outburst in the third quarter to completely erase the deficit and enter the fourth knotted at 57 apiece. The surge featured offensive put-backs from Burse and freshman Taylor Drury, as well as a timely triple from sophomore Claire Carlton and a conventional three-point play from Burse.

After another Burse bucket to start the fourth gave the Hounds a 59-57 edge, the Rangers managed a 7-0 spurt to ultimately gain the lead for good. Parkside pushed the margin to eight with less than a minute to go before one more push from the Hounds. Ferguson found junior Erin Wood for an easy basket with 45 seconds left, and after another offensive board by Drury – her sixth of the day, sophomore Tristan Philpot buried a 3-pointer to make it a one-possession game with 27 ticks remaining.

The Greyhounds would not score the rest of the way, however, as Parkside escaped Nicoson Hall with a 79-73 win.

HOUND BYTES
Head Coach Kristin Wodrich on her senior class…
"We're so thankful or our seniors, thankful for all they've done for this university. It's not the end of our relationship, it's the start of something new and we're excited for their new ventures in life. It was a good day for all of them, and we love them all very much. That's what we should be celebrating today is those kids."
