SPRINGFIELD, Mo. - It was a tough loss on Saturday afternoon for the UIndy women's tennis team, who was vying for its second-straight GLVCÂ tournament championship. The Greyhounds had their chance to take a 2-1 lead heading into singles, but Drury - ranked No. 18 in the country - put its foot on the gas pedal and defeated 29th-ranked UIndy, 5-1.Â
Chloe Weihs and
Florence Renard suffered an 8-4 defeat No. 2 doubles, the first match to conclude on the day between the team ranked opponents. The Greyhounds knotted the contest at one apiece soon after, however, as second-ranked
Hanna Volikova and
Alina Kislitskaya took down their No. 1 tandem counterparts, 8-5.Â
Dana Olsen and
Paige Olsen nearly escaped with a win in the No. 3 slot, but the sister duo fell in heart-breaking fashion, 9-8.Â
Pam Brito Torres took the loss at No. 5 singles 6-2, 6-0, before Kislitskaya retired at No. 2, giving Drury a commanding 4-1 lead with just one decision needed to move onto to the championship tomorrow afternoon. Unfortunately for UIndy, Weihs dropped No. 3 in straight sets, concluding the semifinal contest.Â
UIndy will await its fate for postseason play, as it was ranked fifth in the Midwest region this past week.Â
