ST. LOUIS - The UIndy women's basketball team defeated Maryville, 80-53, on Saturday afternoon. The Greyhounds are now 11-9 on the season and 8-6 in conference play.

Elana Wells was a star on the court for the Hounds during the contest. Wells finished with 26 points. The junior was 100 percent from beyond the arc, going 3-for-3, and 9-of-11 overall on the night.

INS AND OUTS
The Greyhounds dominated in the second quarter, outscoring the Saints 28-12. The quarter included a 19-2 run by the Hounds.

Liv Becker, and
Elana Wells all had five points each. As a team, UIndy was 7-for-13 from the field and 3-of-4 from beyond that arc in that run.

Wells finished the first half with some impressive stats. The junior was 6-for-7 from the field and 2-of-2 in both 3-pointers and free throws.

This momentum led the Greyhounds the rest of the way. The Hounds' highest lead of the night was 26 points. This came in the third quarter at the 4:29 mark, with a score of 56-30.

Maryville went on a short run from the end of the third quarter throw the beginning of the fourth. Although, the Saints were not able to best a significant UIndy lead and strong defense. Â

INSIDE THE BOX
- UIndy defense was stellar, holding Maryville to only shoot 20-of-73 and 4-for-26 in 3-point territory.
- The Greyhounds were successful near the rim. The team had 56 rebounds on the night, a new season high. Becker led the Hounds with 11.
- Five hounds were able to tab blocks to their name. UIndy finished with five as a team.
- Becker did not leave the court, playing for all 40 minutes of the contest.

MORE NOTES
Carsyn Fearday was the Saints leading scorer. Fearday finished with 17 points. ... Even with today's victory UIndy still trails Maryville 9-8 in the all-time series. Although, the two teams split the 2023-24 season series 1-1.

The Greyhounds will host the Upper Iowa Peacock for the first time on Thursday, Feb. 8. The Peacocks joined the GLVC before the 2023-24 season, tip-off is slated for 5 p.m. in Nicoson Hall.
