INDIANAPOLIS – The University of Indianapolis announced Wednesday an exciting new chapter in its storied athletics history. Beginning July 1, 2027, the Greyhounds will officially join the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC). UIndy will continue its proud tradition of competition in the Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) through the 2026-27 academic year before transitioning to its new athletic home.

The University athletics department embarked on a comprehensive assessment this spring following an invitation from the G-MAC to consider joining the league. The assessment considered conference geography, institutional mission alignment, academic profile, financial health and sustainability, student-athlete support, and competitive positioning. 

The decision represents a strategic institutional move that advances the university's mission, aligns strategic priorities, enhances the student-athlete experience, prioritizes academic success, supports financial stewardship, and positions UIndy Athletics for long-term sustainability and competitive success.  

"This move reflects a thoughtful evaluation of where we can best support our student-athletes while continuing to uphold the high standards of academic and athletic excellence that have long defined the University of Indianapolis," said University of Indianapolis president Dr. Tanuja Singh. "We are deeply grateful for our decades of partnership and competition in the GLVC, a conference that has played an important role in our history as a charter member. At the same time, we are excited to begin a new chapter in the G-MAC—one that builds on our proud tradition while creating new opportunities for our student-athletes, coaches, and the Greyhound community."

The G-MAC is an NCAA Division II athletic conference with full member institutions located in Kentucky, Michigan, and Ohio. Established in 2011, the conference consists of private, non-profit member institutions and sponsors 26 conference championship sport offerings. The league sponsors a championship opportunity for every sport UIndy currently participates in with the exception of women's triathlon.

Most importantly, our championship expectations remain unchanged; we will continue to compete for conference titles, NCAA postseason opportunities, and national championships while providing a best-in-class student-athlete experience."  
 
The G-MAC membership includes Ashland University (OH), Cedarville University (OH), University of Findlay (OH), Hillsdale College (MI), Kentucky Wesleyan College (KY), Lake Erie College (OH), Malone University (OH), Northwood University (MI), Ohio Dominican University (OH), Tiffin University (OH), Ursuline College (OH), Walsh University (OH), and Thomas More University (KY). Many of the current G-MAC institutions have regularly met the Greyhounds in non-conference and postseason competitions, with two of the institutions—Ashland and Kentucky Wesleyan—being former GLVC members.
 
Great Midwest founding commissioner Tom Daeger recognized the University as a strong match for the G-MAC in a number of ways.

Outside of a handful of sports-specific conference transitions through the years, the move marks UIndy's first primary conference shift since it became a charter member of the GLVC in 1978. Indianapolis has won the GLVC All-Sports Trophy a league-record 17 times, including each of the last 14 years, and is one of only two DII schools in the nation with an active streak of 18 consecutive top-20 finishes in the prestigious Learfield Directors' Cup standings.
