Box score

INDIANAPOLIS-  Senior Stephen Geller hauled-in a 38-yard pass for a score late in the third quarter to give UIndy its first lead in a 21-17 homecoming win over Tiffin Saturday at Key Stadium.  The Hounds picked-up their third straight win in the process and improved to 4-5 overall and 3-5 in league play.

Tiffin (0-9, 0-8 GLIAC) provided a formidable scare but UIndy made the plays when it had to and came away with the victory for its fourth straight homecoming victory.  It marked the third time in a row that UIndy overcame a second-half deficit to post a win on homecoming.

The teams played to a scoreless first quarter with UIndy missing a 42-yard field goal attempt by Jace Morrison on its first possession.  The Dragons fired first, getting a score from quarterback Nate Scully to Greg Raspberry for a 7-0 advantage early in the second frame.  TU would add another score after UIndy was forced to punt and a fumble gave the Dragons good field position.  They took advantage two plays later when Scully found David Singleton from 14 yards out and a 14-0 advantage.

The Hounds finally answered behind the strength of freshman back Patrick Bourne.  After rattling-off a 30-yard rush on second-and-one, Bourne would punch it in from a yard out to put the Greyhounds on the board, 14-7.  Rob Doyle helped even the score before halftime, firing a strike to Joe Leach for a 7-yard score.

Tiffin would not go away in the second half, forcing a fumble on UIndy's first play from scrimmage and coverting it into a 42-yard field goal for a 17-14 Dragon lead.  After the Greyhound defense forced a fourth down, the Tiffin punt hit a UIndy player and the Dragons pounced on it to retain possession and looked to rebuild a comfortable margin.  The Hound defense was up to the task, however, as on the next play, Collin Coffer snared an interception to give the ball back to Indianapolis.

From there, UIndy went 60 yards in seven plays with the scoring play coming on the TD toss to Geller along the far sidelines and UIndy finally had its first lead.  While that play was big, a fine play by punter Erick Kumming may have personified the gritty win.  Prepared to punt standing near his own 20-yardline, Kumming had to scramble to corral an errant snap, racing to his left before getting off an unconventional running kick just before pressure closed in on him.  His punt eventually landed at the Tiffin 13-yardline, giving the Dragons a long field.

Aaron Ruth helped seal it on the ensuing drive, picking-off Scully with two-and-a-half minutes remaining.  Bourne grabbed a first down with under a minute left, an 11-yard run that put a cap on his second 100-yard rushing performance.  His 137 yards rushing marked a career-high and UIndy is now 4-0 when he garners a carry.

Geller finished the night with a team-high six catches for 95 yards and a score.  Doyle etched his fourth straight contest with two throwing TDs.  The Greyhound defense pressured Tiffin to the tune of six sacks among nine tackles for loss.  Mike Dum led UIndy with eight total tackles.

The Hounds will look to return to .500 when they head on the road for their final two games.  Next Saturday pits the Greyhounds against Ashland for a 1:00 p.m. kick.

Notes: The game was the final home game for the UIndy senior class ... the Greyhound athletic department honored those seniors along with a senior band member and cheerleaders ...
