Football announces yearly award winners


INDIANAPOLIS- The 2009 Greyhound football team honored their top performers at their annual banquet held recently.  Special awards were presented to players at each position by their respective position coach as well as the William A. Bright Most Valuable Player Awards and the Kelso M. Reid Mental Attitude Award.

Danny Goff was honored with the 2009 Kelso M. Reid Mental Attitude Award.  The senior defensive lineman recorded 36 tackles in his final season at UIndy, including seven tackles for loss and 19 solo stops.  The senior co-captain also collected three and a half sacks, two of them coming in Indianapolis' 34-7 win at Ferris State.

Randall Courtney was named Most Valuable Defensive Player of the Year after his contributions on the Greyhound defensive line.  The Indianapolis native completed his senior season with 45 tackles that included 11 tackles behind the line of scrimmage and five and a half sacks.  Courtney tallied season highs in UIndy's opener against Kentucky Wesleyan by making seven tackles, two and a half for loss, and one and a half sacks.  Courtney was named 1st Team All-GLIAC earlier this season and was the 2008 and 2009 recipient of the team's Defensive Lineman of the Year.

The final award of the evening was presented to Tim Dury as the Most Valuable Offensive Player of the Year.  The senior center was the key component of the UIndy offensive line, starting all 11 contests in his final campaign after being named as a co-captain.  Dury was honored earlier this season by being named All-GLIAC 1st Team and was named the team's Offensive Lineman of the Year in 2008 and 2009.
