KENOSHA, Wis.- Now 12-0 on the season, the 13th-ranked University of Indianapolis volleyball team set a new program record for wins to start a season Friday at the Wisconsin-Parkside Invitational. UIndy broke the old mark in the first of two matches on the day, a five-set thriller versus No. 15 Minnesota State, before going on to a three-set win versus St. Cloud State.
MATCH 1
The Greyhounds downed the talented Mavericks 25-18, 22-25, 25-23, 20-25, and 16-14 in the record-breaking win. The Greyhounds surpassed their 1999 counterparts, who started their season 10-0 a decade ago.
The teams traded wins through the first four frames to force a fifth set, UIndy's first of the year. The Greyhounds quickly went down 3-0 to start the deciding set, as Coach Jody Butera was forced to call a timeout. Her women responded and went on the squeak out the 16-14 win to take the match.
Indianapolis is now 2-for-2 versus ranked teams this year, as it also defeated then-13th-ranked Truman State in straight sets back on Sep. 5.
Sophomore
Kristina Hefferan bombed a personal-high 23 kills on 39 swings, good for a hefty .513 hitting percentage. Freshman
Kristina Kerrigan amased 16 kills and
Cheneta Morrison had 56 assists. Four Hounds recorded double-digits in digs, led by
Kyleigh Turner and
Lyndsay Callahan, who each had 20.
MATCH 2
UIndy hit a season-high .462 as a team in the efficient 25-10, 25-15, 25-20 win over St. Cloud.
Lyndsay Callahan recorded 11 kills and six digs while recording a .360 hitting percentage.

Play continues tomorrow at the eight-team event. First at 1:30 pm EDT, UIndy faces Minnesota-Crookston in a rematch from an
Aug. 28 meeting earlier this season. The Hounds wrap up play with a 6:30 pm EDT match against Northwest Missouri State.
The GLVC opener awaits the Greyhounds upon their return to Indy. The ladies host arch-rival Lewis on Friday, Sep. 18 at 7 p.m., a match that will be streamed live at athletics.uindy.edu.
