On tap: The Greyhounds face a daunting task this week, welcoming a pair of the nation's top squads into Nicoson Hall. UIndy matches up with unbeaten and fourth-ranked Southern Indiana Thursday night and will follow with a showdown with No. 13 Kentucky Wesleyan on Saturday afternoon.
About USI: The Screaming Eagles have not played since last Thursday's win at Kentucky Wesleyan. Jeron Lewis fell to the court in that game and later passed away at an Owensboro, Ky. hospital. USI postponed its Saturday and Monday games. The Eagles own the top scoring offense (94.0 ppg) and top defense (62.8 ppg) in the league. Jamar Smith tops the conference with a 23.6 scoring average.
Series Record with the Eagles: The all-time series record rests firmly with USI as the Eagles hold a 48-15 edge. USI has won the last two games with the last UIndy win coming on Dec. 9, 2006, a 55-54 win over then-No. 2 USI on a pair of Justin Barnard free throws in the final seconds.
About KWC: The Panthers bring a hefty 18-2 record into this weekend's action. Desmond Stephens is their leading scorer, going for 17 per game and tops the conference in assists per game (7.1). Chris Williams is the second-leading rebounder in the league, pulling down 8.8 per contest.
Series Record with the Panthers: KWC owns the advantage, winning 48 of the 61 games played all-time. UIndy's last win against KWC came on Feb. 10, 2007, a 72-67 win that gave the Hounds a season sweep over the Panthers.
UIndy Head Coach Stan Gouard: Stan Gouard is in his second season and carries a 19-25 record as the Greyhound front man. He previously spent three years as an assistant coach at Indiana State following his three-year stint as an assistant at UIndy. While at Indianapolis, Gouard was part of the staff that helped the Hounds to a 47-31 record, advancing to the NCAA tournament all three seasons.
Looking Ahead: UIndy plays five of its next eight games against schools currently in the top 20 nationally. After USI and KWC this week, the Hounds head to Saint Joseph's and Wisconsin-Parkside before returning home for Rockhurst and currently 19th-ranked Drury. Rematches with KWC and USI on their home floors follow the homestand.
Last Time Out: Junior
Darius Adams dumped-in a game-high 26 points to lift visiting Indianapolis to a
67-55 win over host Missouri S&T Monday night in Great Lakes Valley Conference play. With the win, UIndy earned its tenth win of the season and snapped a three-game losing skid. Adams came off-the-bench for just the second time this season and provided a lift, especially in the second half, to aid the Hounds in the road win. The junior transfer scored 21 of his points after halftime as UIndy (10-7, 4-4 GLVC) extended a two-point advantage into double digits early in the second stanza. Adams chipped-in three steals, three assists and three rebounds in 34 minutes of action.
Nate Blank scored 11 and led the Hounds with eight rebounds.
No Three for You!: Indianapolis leads the GLVC in three-point field goal defense, allowing just 30 percent to its opponents from distance. Just 84 three-pointers in 17 games this season have been hit by UIndy foes, also the lowest total in the conference.
Getting Offensive (on the glass): The league's top three teams in terms of offensive rebounds will be on display at Nicoson Hall this week. Southern Indiana grabs a conference-best 14.15 offensive boards per game while KWC is second at 13.69. UIndy and Maryville are tied for third with a 13.35 clip.
Hounds on TV: The Greyhounds are again scheduled to be on television this season with expanded coverage being provided on the UIndy Television Network. Produced by HomeTown Television, the following five games will be televised via tape-delay and will air on HomeTown Sports Indiana (Comcast and Brighthouse): Dec. 3, Jan. 23, Feb. 4, 6 & 15.
