WACO, Texas – Winners of eight straight, the UIndy football team made its first-ever appearance in the American Football Coaches Association Division II Top 25 Poll Monday. The Greyhounds (8-2), who sat just one spot out of the top 25 last week, debuted at No. 19 in this week's release.
Eight of the bottom 15 teams lost over the weekend, opening the door for four new teams to enter the poll this week. Like UIndy, GLVC-rival Missouri S&T (9-1) also made its first-ever AFCA poll appearance, coming in at No. 20.
At the top of the poll, two other Super Region #4 members held on to their top-five spots. Colorado State-Pueblo (10-0) earned the No. 1 ranking for the fourth consecutive week after its 31-17 victory over New Mexico Highlands Saturday, while fifth-ranked Ashland (10-0) took down Tiffin to clinch the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference title for the first time in school history.
UIndy's only Division II loss came at Ashland in the season opener Aug. 30.
The Greyhounds hit the road for the regular-season finale at Urbana Saturday, Nov. 10. Kickoff is scheduled for 12 p.m. A win against the Blue Knights would earn UIndy an outright Great Lakes Valley Conference championship.
