INDIANAPOLIS – On the eve of the first-ever Great Lakes Valley Conference football season, the UIndy football team was picked as the unanimous No. 1 in the GLVC Preseason Coaches' Poll, released Friday afternoon.
Unveiled at the conclusion of today's GLVC Football Kickoff 2012 event, the poll featured the league's nine football-playing schools, with UIndy receiving the maximum eight first-place votes and 64 points (no team could vote for itself). The Greyhounds return 16 starters – nine offensive, seven defensive – from a 2011 squad that put up seven wins in the perennially-tough Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletics Conference (GLIAC).
Associate-member Urbana University garnered 55 points and the only other first-place nod to take second place. Missouri S&T (52 pts) was a close third, while Saint Joseph's (37) and William Jewell (33) rounded out the top five. The complete poll is below.
The conference released the poll results in reverse order via Twitter throughout the day's kickoff festivities. The event, held in the Millennium Student Center on the campus of the University of Missouri-St. Louis, featured GLVC coaches and players interacting with media and fans through a variety of platforms.
