Football moves to #4 in regional rankings

INDIANAPOLIS –For the second straight week, the UIndy football team moved up one spot in the regional poll, climbing to No. 4 in the latest NCAA Division II Super Region Four rankings.  The Greyhounds (9-1, 6-0 GLVC) are on pace for their second straight playoff berth, as just six teams from each region will advance to the 24-team NCAA D-II Championships next month.

As the only Great Lakes Valley Conference team in the region's top 10, UIndy handed visiting Quincy a 33-7 defeat at Key Stadium last weekend, upping its winning streak to seven and clinching a share of the GLVC title.  UIndy (4), Grand Valley State (5) and Tarlton State (6) all moved up after Midwestern State's 40-21 loss to Eastern New Mexico.  Consequently, the Mustangs dropped from fourth to ninth in the rankings.

Meanwhile, Colorado State-Pueblo and Ohio Dominican remained undefeated to hang on to the No. 1 and 2 spots, respectively, while GLIAC-power Saginaw Valley State clung tight to third.

A total of 40 teams make up Division II's fourth "super region," as members of the Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC), the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletics Conference (GLIAC), the Lone Star Conference (LSC) and the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) comprise the lot.

The annual tournament will begin on campus sites Nov. 23.  The opening round will feature the No. 3 and No. 4 seeds hosting games versus the sixth- and fifth-seeded squads, respectively, while the top two teams will receive byes.  The bracket plays out on consecutive Saturdays until a champion is crowned Dec. 21.

Last season, the Hounds made their first postseason appearance since 1975 and first since joining Division II; UIndy earned the No. 4 seed and ousted fifth-seeded and visiting Midwestern State, 31-14, before falling at No. 1 Colorado State-Pueblo, 28-7, in the second round.
